Auburn High School Youth Forum Recap

We held our first Youth Forum at Auburn High School on March 26th! We discussed several community-related issues with students from AP Government and Civics courses. We asked the students two questions and received diverse answers.

What aspects of our community do you think need improvement?

  • Funding for the Auburn School District and afterschool activities
  • Youth weapon accessibility
  • More support for the homeless, especially for those addicted to drugs
  • Drug issues, especially in the schools
  • Potholes
  • Strengthening relations between civilians and people of power
  • Social gatherings and community events
  • School attendance
  • More safe spaces for teens

If together we could take action on one thing to strengthen this community, what would be most important to you?

  • More patrolling near unsafe areas
  • More community involvement
  • Hosting community events to build relationships
  • Not being judgmental towards others
  • More opportunities for teens' voices to be heard
  • Improving community cleanliness and parks
  • Funding afterschool activities
  • Drug prevention
  • Addressing violence
